Fasihi brings the digital world to school

Software company launches IT2School project at Karolinen-Gymnasium Frankenthal

Our company started the project "IT2School - Discover IT together" of the Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e.V. at the Karolinen-Gymnasium in Frankenthal in February 2019. Pupils in grades six and seven are familiarised with topics related to the internet, digitalisation and programming in project lessons. Marius Pollmer, head of the Fasihi Academy, teaches the topics personally on site. Pollmer: "We support the Karolinen-Gymnasium with our Fasihi team in terms of personnel and logistics and will enter the world of IT together with the pupils. The young people with their ideas and spontaneity in dealing with IT and technology are our capital of tomorrow. We want to promote that."

So far, the plan is to incorporate IT2School into lessons for one hour a week from February until the end of the school year. The project is supported by company founder and CEO Saeid Fasihi: "IT2School can become a win-win situation both for the pupils and for Fasihi as an IT company. If we can get kids excited about STEM subjects today, we're building the foundation for our workforce tomorrow." STEM subjects is a collective term for teaching and studying subjects or professions in the fields of mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology.

Creating a basic understanding of IT

In terms of content, IT2School first of all addresses all children from the 4th grade onwards. The modules "From Blinking to Encrypting" and "Understanding the Internet" create a basic understanding of IT, which can be branched off into different levels. With "Scratch Programming" and the control of the microcontroller Calliope, it goes into IT technology, with the analysis of barcodes in the supermarket and design of QR codes into the implementation of IT and into one's own living environment. An excursion into virtual reality with VR glasses creates playful variety and thus also space for further ideas and creativity.

Dr. Christian Bayer, headmaster of the Karolinen-Gymnasium, is pleased about the support of the IT professionals from Fasihi: "Today, information technology is part of our everyday life. Often we are not aware of the great importance of this technology in our leisure time, school and professional life. This is a great opportunity for our students to gain insight into digital worlds."

The Knowledge Factory established the connection between the grammar school and Fasihi GmbH. Dr Axel Jentzsch, Head of Education at the Knowledge Factory, emphasises: "Success comes when many partners join forces. We are pleased about the commitment of Fasihi and Karolinen-Gymnasium. In this way, we support young people in dealing with information technology in a mature and creative way."

IT2School - A project of the Knowledge Factory - Companies for Germany e.V.

Information technology is everywhere and is becoming a central competence in a digitalised world, both privately and professionally. It shapes our knowledge and brings us into contact with each other. With "IT2School - Discover IT Together", children and young people are prepared for the digital world, understand the background and learn not only to use digital media but also to actively shape it.

IT2School is about more than just using smartphones, tablets and laptops. The project introduces pupils from primary and secondary schools to information technology from their everyday lives, covering basic topics such as communication, data, programming languages and the interaction of hardware and software. While exploring, enquiring, developing and solving problems, the children and young people can experience IT in a playful way in class, in order to understand processes and to design them creatively themselves. The goal of the educational project is not only to use IT, but also to shape it.

IT2School is a project of the Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e.V. in Ludwigshafen.
